AI transparency
This page explains, in plain terms, exactly where AI is and isn't used in this product.
Where AI is used: reading your document
When you upload a PDF or photo of a lab report, we send its text (for a PDF with a text layer) or its image (for a photo or scan) to Groq, our AI provider, which reads the document and identifies marker names, values, units, and reference ranges. Per Groq's documentation, inference data is not retained by default and may be logged for up to 30 days only for reliability or abuse investigation; any retained data is stored in the US. AI extraction from real-world documents is not perfect: scans can be blurry, tables can be misread, and unusual formats can confuse it.
Why confirmation is mandatory
Because AI extraction can make mistakes, we never generate an explanation from a value you haven't seen and confirmed yourself. The confirmation screen exists specifically to catch and correct extraction errors before anything else happens.
How your explanations are generated
The description of what each marker measures is fixed, written content, prepared once per marker and reviewed for accuracy and tone, then translated into each supported language, and that part never changes based on your result. The 'why it matters' text and suggested questions, however, are generated by an AI model hosted by Groq specifically for the values you confirmed, only for markers outside their range or whose range was not found; markers within range keep their fixed text. This generation is held to strict rules: no diagnosis, no treatment or medication advice, no health score, and cautious, hedged language throughout. If generation fails for any reason, we fall back to fixed, reviewed explanation text for that marker rather than showing an error.
Manual entry
If you type in your values manually instead of uploading a document, the AI reading step is skipped, but generating your 'why it matters' explanations and suggested questions still uses Groq the same way as the upload path, once you've confirmed your entries.
